[1:3]  1 tn Heb “Every place on which the sole of your foot walks, to you I have given it, as I said to Moses.” The second person pronouns in vv. 3-4 are plural, indicating that all the people are addressed here. The verbal form נְתַתִּיו (nÿtattiv, “I have given it”) is probably a perfect of certitude, emphasizing the certainty of the action. Another option is to translate, “I have already assigned it.” In this case the verb would probably refer to the Lord’s decree to Abraham that he would give this land to his descendants.

[1:5]  2 tn Heb “A man will not stand before you.” The second person pronouns in this verse are singular, indicating Joshua is the addressee.

[4:14]  3 tn Heb “feared.”

[4:14]  4 tn Heb “all the days of his life.”

[4:14]  5 tn Heb “had feared.”

[8:32]  6 tn Heb “and he wrote there on the stones a duplicate of the law of Moses which he wrote before the sons of Israel.”

[13:12]  7 tn Heb “from the remnant of the Rephaites.”

[13:12]  sn The Rephaites were apparently an extremely tall ethnic group. See Deut 2:10-11, 20; 3:11.

[13:12]  8 tn Or “dispossessed them.”

[13:33]  9 tn Heb “Moses did not assign an inheritance.” The word “land” has been supplied in the translation to clarify what the inheritance consisted of.

[13:33]  10 tn That is, “their source of food and life.”

[13:33]  11 tn Or “as he promised”; Heb “as he spoke to.”

[13:33]  sn For the background of this observation, see Deut 18:1-2.

[14:3]  12 tn Or “assigned an inheritance.”

[14:3]  13 tn Or “no inheritance.”

[14:3]  14 tn The Hebrew text adds, “in their midst.”

[14:11]  15 tn Heb “like my strength then, like my strength now, for battle and for going out and coming in.”

[20:2]  16 tn Heb “Say to the sons of Israel, ‘Set aside for yourselves.’”

[20:2]  17 tn Or “asylum.”

[22:2]  18 tn Heb “You have kept all which Moses, the Lord’s servant, commanded you, and you have listened to my voice, to all which I commanded you.”

[23:6]  19 tn Heb “Be strong so you can be careful to do.”

[24:5]  20 tn Heb “by that which I did in its midst.”
